Quote from, "The Second Wave of Open Source Test Automation: An Interview with David Dang" in Better Software Magazine, Spring 2016 Edition David Dang, Better Software Magazine, Spring 2016 Edition

StarEast keynote presenter, David Dang, interviewed by Better Software Magazine, shares his expertise on what to expect in the next wave of open source test automation tools. David began working in the IT industry as a developer over twenty-one years ago, but test automation sparked his interest and he now has over nineteen years of experience in it. Most recently, he has been more involved with consulting, teaching, and working to create and build more effective automation frameworks at Zenergy Technologies.

With the continuous growth of mobile and the web, a second wave of open source test tools is coming at the right time. In David's interview "The Second Wave of Open Source Test Automation," he explores what this current wave of open source test tools are and how they can be effectively integrated into your testing processes. Although the first wave of open source test tools served as a good introduction to open source, the second wave of tools are better suited for community usage and are more adaptable, as they support a larger variety of programming languages and platforms.
Read the full interview for more details, but here is a sneak peak of some questions asked of David from the interview:

  • Why does Selenium play such a large role in the second wave?
  • For those without as much experience in Selenium, what are some of the common challenges encountered when implementing these tools into their processes?
  • Because these tools require a certain level of maturity and are not fully featured yet, what amount new skills would testers need to learn to take advantage of these open source test automation tools? Is there an extended length of time this learning process would require
  • Are open source test automation tools the best choice for all software testing teams, or are they more pertinent to the specific makeup of the team being developed?

If you want to learn more about open source tools and get into the open source mind-set, attend David’s keynote, "Open Source Test Automation: Riding the Second Wave" at StarEast 2016 on May 4, from 10:00am to 11:00am.
