Zenergy's director of client services and the president & CEO help stuff and organize backpacks for children in need.

Last year the Zenergy crew volunteered at BackPack Beginnings. This local charity, in Greensboro, NC, is a 100% volunteer organization working to assist children challenged with hunger, trauma, homelessness and poverty. BackPack Beginnings provides backpacks filled with basic necessities like food, comfort, items, and clothing.

WHY BACKPACK BEGINNINGS?

Zenergy chose BackPack Beginnings because the organization has true and immediate impact within our community by giving food and clothing directly to the children in need. To date, the non-profit organization has helped almost 4,000 children experiencing hunger and trauma. They've served children in need at 34 Guilford County Schools and 16 child assistance organizations.

HOW ZENERGY HELPED

Prior to volunteering at the organization, Zenergy collected donations. Employees filled boxes for four weeks with supplies such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, washcloths, Chap Stick, blankets, body wash, notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, and much more. Overall, we collected a total of 211 items for the comfort program and 307 individual items for the food program.

During our visit, Zenergy volunteers split into groups to help in various areas:

  • Organized and sorted hygiene and food products into specific categories
  • Sorted, weighed, and recorded the total pounds of supplies collected, allowing the organization to make an estimate as to how many backpacks they can assemble with the available supplies
  • Prepped and stuffed backpacks for children in different age groups
  • Decorated the new space by making it more aesthetically pleasing for future visitors and volunteers

In a single afternoon, Zenergy completed 88 staff-hours of work for the organization, saving one BackPack Beginning person more than two weeks of time. As a company focused on helping others with software quality and test automation solutions, Zenergy’s employees enjoyed going beyond to provide help to those in need.
